We’re Phyter

Made from fresh ripe plants. Bursting with phytonutrients. Phyter is the quick, clean energy food.

Making Our Philosophy Edible.

Phyter was born from a health and wellness company called Healthful Habits. Healthful Habits was (and still is!) committed to educating people on a healthier way of life through plant-based foods and other healthy lifestyle choices, and bringing nutrition and compassion to those in need. We were happy spreading our plant-based gospel, but we wanted a much bigger platform. So we decided to create a food that embodies our beliefs and passions.

We are incredibly proud of Phyter. The simple natural ingredients we use. Our uncomplicated manufacturing process. And, of course, the delicious taste.

But what we love most about Phyter is the abundant plant-based nutrition you get with every bite. As part of a balanced diet and active lifestyle, plant-based nutrition (aka phytonutrition) has been shown to help prevent disease. If you can get health benefits, plus quick energy and delicious taste, why would you ever settle for an ordinary energy bar?

We’re excited to hit the fridge (because Phyter is made from nothing but plants – with no weird preservatives or “stabilizers” – it’s not shelf-stable and will be sold in the refrigerated or freezer section only) in 2016. And we’re excited to continue serving those in need through philanthropic initiatives and programs. Please join us in our efforts to make the world a healthier place. Click here.

Three people who share a passion for healthy eating.

Gloria Athanis

A devoted health enthusiast and athlete, Gloria is passionate about teaching people the benefits of a healthy plant-based diet. During the course of her 30+ year career as a media and marketing executive, Gloria was a member of Dr Mehmet Oz’s Chicago Health Expo Team. She also led a series of healthy lifestyle programs featuring Dr. T. Colin Campbell, author of The China Study, a New York Times Bestseller. She holds a BA in Economics from Marymount College at Fordham University. Gloria has a certificate in Integrated Marketing and Communications Strategy from Kellogg School of Management as well as a certificate in Plant-based Nutrition from Cornell University.

Chef David Choi Jr.

Schooled by his Parents, accomplished plant-based Chefs, and raised in a vegan family, Chef David brings a fresh perspective to healthy nutrition. He explains “I like to work with foods and flavors that people are already familiar with, but I bring them together in healthy new ways.” He earned his degree in Accounting at the University of Illinois and was the head chef for 9 years at Amitabul, the family’s well-known establishment in the city. He has led cooking programs at Chicago Botanic Garden, Mercy Home for Boys & Girls, Boys Hope Girl’s Hope, and many private and corporate events.

Jeff Adeszko

For over 20 years, Jeff operated and grew a business that primarily served “Big Pharma.” This path led Jeff to question traditional thinking about health and wellness. After Jeff successfully exited the industry, he found himself searching for ways to advance a vision of wellness that is holistic and preventive. This vision led him to co-Phyter along with Gloria and Chef David.

Healthful Habits works with many non-profit organizations that are dedicated to supporting at risk youth. Our programs teach these individuals the basics for living a happy and healthy life. Our work includes supporting at risk youth suffering from pediatric cancer; we offer them nutritional support and mentorship. We also conduct programs for administrative staff so they are empowered to then carry on healthy habits and positive lifestyle messages to their organizations.
